I think it’s good, but the guys in San Quentin here would kill that warden and try to escape. They must be lower level criminals, Norway must have a max security facility, there are just bad people out there that have to be locked up.

Sure we have max security prisons, the guy who killed 77 people because they are socialists will never get out of prison. The thing is though, we think that most criminals could be made into nice people, and it works.

I agree, the US is totally fucked up, the system of making money off of marijuana offenders and whatever else bullshit law is totally unethical. If they made all drugs legal and had government funded rehab, the people who are determined to kill themselves on heroin will, and the people who want to get better will. Keeping young people who fuck up in prison for years in the company of other more serious offenders makes them worse I would say, probably more likely to be criminals when they get out. But that isn’t the point, the privately owned prisons make money off everything, even supplies like toilet paper.

A bunch of dipshit American kids threw big rocks off a bridge and onto a highway in Darmstadt Germany in December 2000. I moved to Darmstadt in Aug 01 and the wounds were still fresh. Anyways, they killed a few people inclincluding a pregnant woman. They got some bullshit sentence (i think 5-7 years) and one requested to extend his sentence to finish a college degree he was working on.

I think we are a little heavyhanded with sentences here in the US, but some crimes are not punished nearly severely enough in Europe as a whole.

The whole privately owned prisons is so alien to me that I can’t even.. But yeah.. People earn money on keeping people in prison.. they WILL NEVER try to rehabilitate them.

Sure, some sentences are not HARD enough here.. BUT.. a 21 year sentence here in Norway is not really a 21 year sentence.. we could extend that for ten years at the time.. making it a true Life sentence. :) Anders Behring Breivik will never be released :)
